Resident doctors in Osun State have joined the ongoing nationwide indefinite strike declared by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD). The doctors at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo stopped attending to patients on Saturday in compliance with the national directive.

According to the state chapter of the Association of Resident Doctors, the decision follows instructions from NARD’s national leadership for all resident doctors across the country to embark on a total and indefinite strike.

The strike was declared after the 30-day ultimatum earlier given to the Federal Government expired without any resolution. NARD’s national president, Dr. Mohammad Suleiman, explained that the strike became necessary following several unmet promises and failed negotiations with government representatives on better working conditions and other demands.

The doctors said the issues affecting NARD members at the national level also impact resident doctors in Osun, prompting their full participation in the strike.
The nationwide action has left many hospitals without resident doctors, affecting medical services as the doctors demand urgent government intervention to improve their welfare and address pending issues in the health sector.
