The controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, on Monday, filed a notice of appeal challenging the six months maximum sentence given to him by a Federal High Court, Lagos.
The crossdresser and socialite who was convicted requested the appellate court overturn the six-month jail term that was issued to him.
In the appeal filed by his lawyer, Bimbo Kusanu, Bobrisky is asking the court to set aside the six months imprisonment sentence and replace it with the option of a fine of N50,000 (Fifty Thousand Naira) on each of the counts against him.
The counsel stated in the notice of appeal that the trial court imposed the maximum sentence on the appellant, who had no previous criminal record of conviction.
He stated that there were options to impose a lesser sentence by the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA)
On April 12, 2024, Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court, Lagos, sentenced Bobrisky to six months’ imprisonment without the option of a fine for abusing the Nigerian currency.
