An armed group broke into the residence of former Ijebu-Ode Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Emilola Gazal, on Thursday morning, stealing valuables, cash, and his vehicle.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. at Gazal’s home in the Ijebu-Ode GRA area.Gazal, who is also the publisher of The Roots Magazine, reported that the intruders forced him to transfer money from his bank account to one provided by them, leaving only a small balance.
They also took his wife’s personal items and an ash-colored car before fleeing the scene. Authorities were informed, and Gazal is expected to report the robbery at local police stations. This attack comes amid increasing cases of home invasions and violent robberies in Ogun State, especially around Ijebu areas.
Earlier this year, the Ogun State Police Command killed a suspected armed robber along the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Expressway and recently arrested a man involved in a burglary and armed robbery in Ayetoro, which involved goods worth about N1.5 million.
Regional security forces, including the Amotekun Corps, have in the past engaged criminal gangs in shootouts along Ogun’s border zones, neutralising some suspects. The state continues to face challenges with violent robberies despite ongoing security operations.
