Today, October 2, 2025, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has started full nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit (TGP). The move follows directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to ensure motorists comply with vehicle and security regulations.
The enforcement is taking place across all states, with particular attention on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Niger State. Vehicle owners are required to present valid and verifiable TGP documents during police checks.
Authorities confirmed that the grace period for obtaining or renewing permits has expired, meaning vehicles with tinted glasses must now have approved permits or face penalties.
The TGP requirement is part of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004, aimed at improving public safety and reducing criminal activity. Vehicles without approved permits may be impounded, and defaulters could face legal prosecution.
Motorists are advised to apply for or renew TGPs via the official police portal, www.possap.gov.ng.Police have called on residents to cooperate with officers during the enforcement exercise, noting that following the law is a shared responsibility to maintain safety and security.
Routine checks are ongoing across the FCT, Niger State, and other parts of the country.
