Former Adamawa North Senator, Ishaku Elisha Abbo, has denied reports claiming he was arrested and held by the police over allegations of raping a 13-year-old schoolgirl in Abuja.
The reports surfaced on Thursday, alleging that the ex-lawmaker was in custody at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) following a petition filed by the mother of the teenager, who accused him of sexually assaulting her daughter on June 29, 2025, at his Katampe residence.
Reacting on Friday in Abuja, Abbo dismissed the claim, insisting that he spent the day at his home in Katampe Extension and was never at any police station. He described the allegation as false and politically motivated, accusing his rivals of orchestrating a smear campaign against him.
Abbo admitted that he had earlier reported a case involving a woman who allegedly demanded N5 million from him. He explained that both parties were invited by the police for questioning but said he was surprised to see the matter twisted into a rape allegation weeks later.
Meanwhile, the family of the alleged victim has maintained that the senator attempted to silence them with money and further accused him of using political allies, including former Adamawa governorship candidate Senator Aishatu Binani, to dissuade them from pursuing the case.
The controversy comes as the latest scandal linked to Abbo, whose political career has been marred by past incidents. In 2019, he was caught on camera assaulting a woman in an Abuja sex toy shop.
He has also faced previous accusations of attempted blackmail involving a married woman.
