The Edo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Agun Gbenga, has died after collapsing at a public event in Benin City.
The incident happened on Thursday at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre, off Airport Road, during a programme organised by the International Association of World Peace Advocates, where Gbenga was among those scheduled to be honoured.
Eyewitnesses said the commandant had just finished delivering a goodwill message when he suddenly slumped. Attempts to resuscitate him at the venue were unsuccessful before he was taken to the Military Base Hospital in Benin, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
While the Command’s spokesperson, Efosa Ogbebor, was unavailable for comment, a senior officer of the Corps confirmed the development, stating that Gbenga had already passed away before colleagues arrived at the hospital.
His sudden death has thrown the NSCDC in Edo State into mourning as tributes continue to pour in for the late commandant.
