Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, representing Ebonyi North and serving as the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, has denied reports claiming that the Federal Government filed a case against him for allegedly making offensive remarks about Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.
The senator made this known in a statement through his media aide, Romanus Uzor, where he described the report as false and politically motivated. He said the publication was a product of political rivals seeking to mislead the public and tarnish his image.
Nwebonyi stated that no case has been instituted against him by the Federal Government in any court, adding that the claim was a deliberate attempt to cause confusion and portray him negatively.
He also noted that it would be unreasonable for the Federal Government to open another case against him when a defamation suit involving Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and the government is already pending in court.
The lawmaker described the online report as a smear campaign driven by those who want to create political tension. He urged the public to disregard the false claims, assuring that he has no legal issue with the Federal Government.
Nwebonyi reaffirmed his dedication to his legislative responsibilities and promised to continue focusing on the development of his constituency and contributing to national growth, without being distracted by baseless allegations.
