The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has returned to Nigeria after completing a brief medical trip abroad.
A video circulating online on Sunday showed the minister at Fraser Suites in Abuja, where he reportedly met with a Qatari delegation behind closed doors.
The meeting also included the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole.Edun’s return follows weeks of speculation after reports surfaced that he had taken ill and travelled from Abuja to Lagos before proceeding overseas for medical attention.
Earlier, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga had confirmed that the minister was unwell, which led to Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso representing Nigeria at the World Bank and International Monetary Fund annual meetings in Washington, D.C.
While abroad, Edun was seen attending the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London, where he visited the O’DA Art Gallery booth and spoke to guests. Onanuga later explained that Edun was on an officially approved break in the United Kingdom.
With his return to Nigeria, the finance minister is expected to resume his official duties as the government continues its efforts to stabilise the economy and attract more foreign investments.
