A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Kuje, Abuja, on Friday granted bail to activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore, lawyer Aloy Ejimakor—who is part of the legal team representing the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu—alongside Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and ten others.
The court granted each of the thirteen defendants bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with two sureties in the same amount.
They were arrested over allegations of causing public disturbance and breaching the peace during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held in Abuja on October 20, 2025.
While Ejimakor, Prince Kanu, and other protesters were arrested at the protest grounds and later taken to the Kuje Correctional Centre, Sowore was picked up on October 23 at the Federal High Court in Abuja. He had attended Kanu’s terrorism trial to show support before being apprehended by security operatives.
Their arraignment before the Magistrate’s Court followed days of public outcry over their detention. The case stems from the demonstration calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who remains in custody facing terrorism-related charges.
The court’s decision to grant bail marks a temporary relief for the activists as their trial for alleged public disorder continues.
