The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has appointed Anietie John Ukpe as the new Deputy Chief of Staff in his office, with the appointment taking effect from 1 November 2025.
The announcement was made through the Directorate of Human Resources and Staff Development of the National Assembly in Abuja. The new appointment is part of Akpabio’s effort to improve the operations of his office, especially in the areas of research, communication, and strategy, to support effective legislative administration.
Ukpe, a seasoned communication expert, journalist, and public relations practitioner, brings more than thirty years of experience to the position. His professional journey covers broadcast journalism, advertising, media management, and leadership development.
He holds a Doctorate in Business and Organizational Communication and is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR). Before this appointment, he served as Director General of the Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC) and later became the Head of the Research and Speech Communication Unit in the Senate President’s Office.
Beyond his professional career, Ukpe is known for his leadership training, public speaking, and mentorship engagements across Nigeria and abroad. He has been involved in promoting ethical leadership and youth development and is also an ordained minister.
In his new position, he will be responsible for providing advisory support, coordinating communication activities, and improving policy communication and relations between the Senate President’s Office and other institutions.
Godswill Akpabio, who became Senate President in June 2023, previously served as the governor of Akwa Ibom State and later as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.
