The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has refuted reports claiming he was arrested over an alleged coup plot in Nigeria.
Ogbuku made this known on Thursday while participating in an official NDDC meeting with Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, and Directors in Port Harcourt. The session, which aired live on Arise TV, focused on creating development strategies aimed at improving the lives of people in the Niger Delta region.
The clarification came after several online reports alleged that the NDDC boss had been detained by security operatives in connection with a supposed coup attempt.
Political figures have also debunked the arrest claim, describing it as a false story circulated on social media. They maintained that Ogbuku has continued his official duties without interruption, including attending an ongoing agricultural summit in Port Harcourt earlier in the day.
Meanwhile, former Bayelsa State governor and ex-minister Timipre Sylva recently disclosed that his Abuja residence was searched by security agencies, but he denied any involvement in the reported coup plot.
Rumours of a coup have circulated across the country in the past week, prompting reactions from government officials and the military, who have both dismissed the claims as baseless.
