A former governor of Jigawa State and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Sule Lamido, has filed a case at the Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the party’s upcoming national convention.
The convention is scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, where new national officers are expected to be elected. Lamido approached the court claiming that the planning process of the convention was unfair and violated the PDP constitution and internal guidelines.
In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CD/2229/2025 and filed by his lawyer, Jephthah Chikodi Njikonye (SAN), Lamido also requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) be stopped from supervising or giving any form of recognition to the convention.
He alleged that the party unlawfully denied him the nomination form needed to contest for the position of national chairman. According to him, the process failed to provide equal opportunities for all eligible members to participate.
Lamido urged the court to compel the PDP to issue him a nomination form for the chairmanship position before any convention can be held. He also asked the court to restrain INEC from monitoring or endorsing the event until his right to contest is restored.
The case adds to the growing internal crisis within the PDP as the party prepares for a major leadership change ahead of the convention.
