Former Anambra Governor Obiano Reportedly Dead in London

News of the reported death of former Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, surfaced on Thursday, creating confusion as no official confirmation has been issued. The report began after Sahara Reporters announced that Obiano died in a hospital in London, but key individuals close to him say they have not yet received any formal information.

The Daily Post contacted his personal publicist, Tony Nezianya, who stated that he had not been informed of Obiano’s death and could not confirm the story. As of the time this report was prepared, neither Obiano’s family nor any government source had released a statement.

Obiano served as governor of Anambra State between 2014 and 2022. He took over from Peter Obi, who later became the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election. Obiano, born on August 8, 1955, comes from Aguleri in the Anambra East Local Government Area.

Before the latest reports, Obiano had been under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over alleged involvement in a N4 billion fraud case. Details about the probe are still ongoing.

The news of his reported death continues to spread, but uncertainty remains as official confirmation has not been given. More information is expected when authorities or family sources make a formal announcement.
