Former Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, is alive and currently residing in Houston, United States, after widespread rumours of his death circulated online. The reports suggested that Obiano had passed away in a London hospital, causing confusion and concern among the public.
Obiano served as governor of Anambra State from 2014 to 2022, succeeding Peter Obi and later handing over to the current governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, in March 2022. He was born on August 8, 1955, and hails from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The former governor’s aide, C-Don Adinuba, addressed the rumours, confirming that Obiano is well and with his family in Houston. He clarified that the reports of his hospitalization and death in London were false and not from credible sources. Obiano’s personal publicist also stated that he had not received any information confirming the claims.
Obiano is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for an alleged N4 billion fraud. Despite this, his health and well-being remain intact as he resides in the United States, away from the ongoing investigations.
The false news about his death has spread quickly on social media, prompting calls for the public to verify information before accepting it as true. Obiano continues his life abroad, maintaining communication with close associates and family.
