Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has asked that Senator Ned Nwoko be suspended, arrested, and prosecuted over allegations of cross-border sex trafficking, unlawful detention, intimidation, fraud, and the use of state security agencies for personal matters. Sowore made the call in a video he posted on his X account, where he explained why he believes the matter concerns the public.
Sowore said the issue came to public attention after the arrest of Regina Daniels’ brother, Samuel Ojeogwu, also known as Sammy West. He noted that the case goes beyond that arrest and touches on a long record of reported abuses involving police officers who, according to him, acted as personal agents for the senator. He claimed that he had met several victims who said they were arrested and detained because of disputes with the senator, including people from Nwoko’s community.
He also said he had been involved in similar cases in the past, including when a social media personality known as Jaruma was detained. Sowore stated that many of these incidents followed a similar pattern, where people who disagreed with or criticised the senator ended up in police custody. He insisted that the duty of citizens is to question and challenge public officers who misuse power.
Sowore accused Senator Nwoko of bringing underage girls from other countries into Nigeria, which he linked to international sex trafficking. He also said that the senator should not be allowed to continue legal practice in Nigeria or the United Kingdom based on these claims.
He explained that the latest conflict started when Regina Daniels’ brother was arrested over accusations of cybercrime and defamation. Despite warnings not to get involved, Sowore said he chose to assist because he believed the arrest was unlawful. He said they secured Sammy West’s release after several days in detention but discovered more plans to target the family through intercepted phone calls.
According to him, there were attempts to expose private matters relating to Regina Daniels’ mother. Sowore defended his involvement, noting that his work is to stand against abuse, even when the person involved does not support him.
Sowore also spoke on the age controversy surrounding Regina Daniels at the time she married Senator Nwoko. He said that her international passport showed she was 17 years old and claimed that another identity document was later obtained to cover up her real age. He argued that marrying someone below the age of consent is unlawful and violates both Nigerian laws and international agreements.
He said that no record of a formal marriage between the senator and Regina Daniels existed and claimed this was deliberate because of the age issue. He also linked the matter to corruption, saying the senator has benefitted from large consultancy payments connected to government refunds to local governments.
Sowore accused the police of giving the senator special support, claiming that some officers regularly visit his home. He said this behaviour shows how wealthy and powerful people use their influence to punish others.
He concluded that the situation is part of a bigger fight against impunity in Nigeria’s political and security systems. He stated that public officers must face consequences when they abuse power, and that this case reflects the wider problems in the country’s justice system.
