The Federal High Court in Abuja is set to deliver judgment on Thursday in the terrorism case involving Nnamdi Kanu, and the session will be aired live on national television. The court made the plan known earlier in the day, allowing broadcast stations to position their cameras inside the courtroom ahead of the ruling.
The decision comes after Justice James Omotosho set November 20 as the date for judgment. The judge reached the decision earlier this month after ruling that Kanu had chosen not to defend himself within the time provided by the court. He had been given six days to open his defence but refused, insisting he would not proceed under a law he argued was no longer in use. The court stated that he had been given enough time to speak for himself and that the option to extend the period would have been available if he had agreed to open his defence.
Television crews from several stations, including NTA, Channels TV, AIT, and TVC, arrived at the courtroom with equipment for the live broadcast. Their presence confirmed the court’s approval for the ruling to be aired publicly, a move that has drawn public interest due to the long-running nature of the case.
The trial, which has stretched for years, has continued to attract attention as the court prepares to state its final decision. Security agencies have also been on alert in parts of the South-East in anticipation of the ruling.
The judgment will be delivered later today, marking the next chapter in a case that has remained at the centre of public debate and legal argument.
