The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revoked the contract for the Apo-Karshi Road, initially awarded in 2011 to Kakatar Construction Company Limited during the tenure of former Minister Bala Mohammed. The decision followed a review of the contractor’s slow progress and lack of completion. The road project has now been reassigned to SCC under an emergency arrangement, and work has already begun.
Wike made the announcement during an inspection tour of ongoing road projects across the FCT, which included the Karu-Customs-CBN Road, Gishiri-Katampe Road, and Apo-Wasa Carriageway. He stated that the re-award of the contract is aimed at ensuring swift completion and that road contracts should serve public welfare rather than political interests.
In addition, the Kubwa-Bwari road has also been awarded and work has started to provide an alternative route for commuters. During the site visit at Karu, Wike addressed a property issue where a shop obstructed a water channel. The government promised compensation for affected property owners while explaining that demolitions were necessary to prevent flooding and safeguard the community.
Residents welcomed the minister’s inspection, signaling approval of the ongoing infrastructure work. Wike mentioned that all ongoing road projects would be completed and commissioned during the third anniversary celebrations of President Bola Tinubu. He also revealed that the FCT Administration would focus on completing current projects in 2026 rather than starting new ones, given the political year and the need to deliver existing projects efficiently.
