Former Governor of Kano State and ex-National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has rejected the Kano State Government’s demand for his arrest, describing it as baseless. The call for his detention followed allegations that he made statements inciting violence and sought to form an illegal militia group in the state.
Ganduje, through his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, stated that the demand distracts from the real security challenges in Kano. He pointed out that several communities, including Bagwai, Shanono, and Tsanyawa, have faced repeated attacks, yet the state leadership has not visited the victims or taken visible action to address their plight. He said these omissions show a disconnect between the government and the people it serves.
The former governor insisted that he has never been involved in acts of violence or linked to threats against the peace of Kano State. He said the allegations are politically motivated and aimed at diverting public attention from the state’s security problems. Ganduje urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to focus on his constitutional responsibility to protect residents and tackle insecurity, rather than issuing unfounded accusations.
The Kano State Government had earlier called for Ganduje’s immediate arrest, citing concerns over comments he allegedly made about creating a militia group in the state. Ganduje’s response comes amid growing tension between him and the current administration over the handling of security in Kano.
