Abia State Governor Alex Otti visited the detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre on Sunday, November 30, 2025. The governor went to the facility accompanied by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu, the Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN), and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma. Officials from the Sokoto State Government were also present during the visit.
During the meeting, Governor Otti reassured Kanu that efforts to secure his release were ongoing and informed him that previous initiatives started over two years ago had been intensified. He expressed confidence that the matter could be resolved through administrative channels.
The governor also conveyed that the Sultan of Sokoto had expressed support for a peaceful solution to Kanu’s situation. The visit reportedly brought a moment of lightness, as Otti shared that the Sultan jokingly referred to Kanu as his “subject,” which brought laughter from the IPOB leader.
Kanu appeared in good spirits during the visit and expressed gratitude for the governor’s efforts. He also commended the progress being made in Abia State and encouraged Governor Otti to continue focusing on good governance. The detained leader concluded by offering prayers for the governor and his team before the delegation left the correctional facility.
The visit by Governor Otti reflects ongoing efforts by both political and traditional leaders to address Kanu’s detention and explore ways for his release through peaceful and administrative means.
