The African Action Congress on Tuesday accused the Federal Government of acting wrongly in the way it carried out a military operation against suspected coup plotters who were fleeing from the Benin Republic. The party made its position known after the Tinubu administration approved the action earlier in the week.
The AAC explained who it was concerned about, saying the government had shown more strength in a foreign matter than in dealing with the daily attacks facing Nigerians at home. The party stated that the country still battles kidnappings, killings, and insecurity, yet the government appears unable to respond with the same speed and order.
The AAC criticised what it described as a pattern where the state moves quickly only when issues affect those in power or foreign partners. According to the party, the long-standing failures in security show that the country has the means to protect citizens but has not devoted the needed attention to their safety.
The party told Nigerians why it believes the situation must change, urging the public to stand together and demand a government that places their well-being first. It asked citizens to organise and use lawful civic action to reclaim control of their society.
The AAC also reacted to how the military operation affects the region, saying it stands with the people of the Benin Republic and opposes any move that may stir unrest in neighbouring countries.
The party ended its statement by calling on Nigerians to remain united and push for a country that truly serves its own people.
