El-Rufai Denies Supporting Southern Candidate for 2027 Presidency

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed claims circulating on social media that he is backing a Southern candidate for the 2027 presidential election. The reports suggested that he might be shifting support from Atiku Abubakar, a Northern presidential aspirant, to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.

El-Rufai clarified that he has not made any statements indicating preference for any region or candidate. He explained that his verified social media platforms are the only channels where he shares his personal views, and opinions written by other authors should not be attributed to him even if he shares them online.

He urged the public and media professionals to verify information before sharing it, noting that the spread of false claims online can mislead society and distort political discussions. El-Rufai also stressed that responsibility lies with everyone involved in media and politics to ensure accurate information is circulated.

The former governor’s statement makes it clear that he has no declared support for any candidate in the 2027 elections and that only his verified statements and interviews with respected media outlets reflect his true opinions. The false reports, which gained traction online, have now been formally denied, reinforcing the need for careful verification before attributing any claims to public figures.
