The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has welcomed the appointment of Professor Chituru Godwill Orluwene as the new Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Wike expressed appreciation to the President for selecting another qualified indigene of Rivers State for a federal role, noting that the appointment reflects continued goodwill toward the state and its people.
According to the statement released on Tuesday, Wike described the choice of Prof Orluwene as appropriate and timely, stating that his experience positions him well to lead the teaching hospital effectively. He encouraged the new CMD to apply his professional background to strengthen services at the hospital in line with the administration’s health goals.
The FCT Minister also extended gratitude to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, for his role in the appointment process. Wike urged Prof Orluwene to work closely with staff, management, and other partners within the institution to sustain quality healthcare delivery for Nigerians.
