The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has criticised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa following the death of a teenager, Good Emiju, which the party claims occurred during the governor’s community thank-you tour in Oka-Akoko. According to the PDP, the young man was allegedly knocked down by a vehicle in the governor’s convoy.
In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Public Communications, Wande Ajayi, the party expressed worry over what it described as the state government’s silence on the incident. The PDP also raised concerns about the quick burial of the deceased, calling for clear information on what led to his death.
The opposition party stated that the teenager was first taken to the General Hospital in Oka-Akoko, where treatment was reportedly limited due to poor facilities. He was later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, where he was confirmed dead. The party said the lack of an official explanation has added to public concern and pain for the victim’s family.
The PDP demanded that the state government give a full account of the incident and explain the role, if any, of the governor’s convoy.
In response, Governor Aiyedatiwa rejected the allegation. Through his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Allen Sowore, the governor stated that his convoy was not involved in any accident on the day in question or at any time during the ongoing tour across the state’s local government areas.
The incident has continued to draw public attention, with calls for clarity and accountability from both the government and opposition figures in the state.
