The All Progressives Congress in Kano State has dismissed comments made by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso about closely watching the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party described the statement as needless and confusing.
Speaking on behalf of the APC in Kano, its Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Aruwa, said the NNPP leader no longer has a firm grip on current political realities. He argued that Kwankwaso no longer speaks for any political party in practical terms and questioned why he would be making statements about monitoring INEC.
Aruwa stated that the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu were satisfied with the preparations so far and expressed trust in INEC’s conduct. He said party leaders in the state had been briefed and were comfortable with the arrangements in place, adding that the ruling party believes the electoral body will act fairly in future elections.
He also pointed to past court decisions, including outcomes that did not favour the APC, as proof that the electoral and judicial processes remain open and balanced. According to him, such records show that the system allows all parties a fair chance.
The APC spokesman accused Kwankwaso of trying to weaken public trust in the electoral process, claiming the remarks were driven by fear of defeat. He urged Nigerians to ignore statements that could create doubt about INEC’s work.
Kwankwaso had earlier spoken at the NNPP national convention in Abuja, where party leaders were returned. During the event, attended by INEC officials and delegates, he acknowledged the role of the commission and said his party would pay close attention to its activities ahead of the next elections.
Despite this, the APC in Kano maintained its confidence in INEC and insisted that attempts to question the commission’s work were politically motivated.
