The All Progressives Congress in Cross River State has expelled its former chairman, Alphonsus Ogar Eba, and suspended the party’s State Special Leader, Dr Juliet Ebuo Diwa. The decisions were taken on Monday during a meeting of the APC State Caretaker Committee held at the party secretariat.
The party leadership said Eba was removed from the APC after he was accused of acting against the party’s constitution. According to the committee, the expulsion followed the application of a section of the APC constitution that bars members from taking party-related issues to court without first using internal party channels. The committee explained that once such legal action is taken, the affected member automatically loses membership.
The Caretaker Committee confirmed that the motion to apply this rule was presented and approved during the meeting, leading to the formal confirmation of Eba’s expulsion. The party also stated that it would not consider any appeal from him unless he withdraws the court case linked to the matter.
In the same meeting, the committee upheld the suspension of Dr Juliet Diwa as State Special Leader. Her suspension was based on allegations of misconduct at the ward level. The party said a petition was submitted by the APC chairman in Boki Local Government Area, accusing her of physically attacking a ward chairman.
The APC leadership added that Diwa’s suspension will remain in place while the party’s disciplinary committee carries out its investigation into the allegations.
