The United States government confirmed that its military carried out air operations against terrorist hideouts in Sokoto State. The announcement was made by US President Donald Trump and also confirmed by the US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, through separate public statements.
After the announcement, Nigeria’s Federal Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, acknowledged that the airstrikes took place. The government stated that the action was based on cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, suggesting that the operation was not a surprise to Nigerian authorities.
However, Sowore rejected this claim. In a statement shared on his social media page, he argued that Nigeria’s sovereignty was breached by the operation. He said the airstrikes were carried out without real approval or informed consent from Nigeria’s leadership. According to him, the claim of joint action with international partners does not reflect what truly happened on the ground.
Sowore also raised concern about the impact of the strike, saying the nature of the operation suggested a lack of care for Nigerian lives and communities. He described the situation as troubling, adding that Nigeria, despite being Africa’s most populous country, now appears unable to fully protect its territory and citizens.
He further stated that the country has been reduced to watching while foreign powers carry out military actions within its borders. Sowore maintained that only strong and informed leadership can safeguard Nigeria’s people and land, insisting that outside forces should not be allowed to act freely within the country.
