Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose made public documents over funds sent to Oyo State. Fayose said the papers show that the Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, received ₦50 billion from the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu. He stated that the money was approved after the explosion that rocked parts of Ibadan in January 2024.
Fayose explained that the funds were released as emergency support to help victims and address damages caused by the blast. He said this followed earlier reports and claims that such money was sent to Oyo State. Governor Makinde had earlier denied receiving the ₦50 billion and asked Fayose to present evidence to support the claim.
In response, Fayose said he decided to make the documents public so Nigerians could see the details for themselves. According to him, the records show that only ₦4.5 billion was paid to those affected by the Ibadan explosion. He alleged that the balance was not used for the stated purpose and claimed it was diverted to support Makinde’s alleged interest in the 2027 presidential race.
Fayose also stated that the issue has affected internal affairs within the Peoples Democratic Party, adding that it has led to tensions between Makinde and the Tinubu-led Federal Government. He maintained that the documents back his claims and said he was ready to face any legal action arising from the allegations.
In addition, Fayose said he has records relating to Oyo State’s Internally Generated Revenue, which he claimed does not match figures earlier released by the state government. He added that there were also other funds sent to Oyo State by the Federal Government that were not made public.
Fayose insisted that he would not make such claims without proof and noted that more documents could be released if the situation demands.
