The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, addressed political supporters in Emohua and Ikwerre Local Government Areas of Rivers State.
Wike cautioned individuals he described as recent political loyalists who have adopted the slogan linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate, saying that sudden public support would not change existing political arrangements. He stressed that political agreements reached earlier must be respected and not replaced by last-minute displays of loyalty.
The minister explained that his political group and the Ikwerre people stood by Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election when the outcome was uncertain. He recalled that support from Ikwerre played a key role in Tinubu’s victory in Rivers State at a time when many others stayed away. According to him, true loyalty is shown during difficult periods, not when success is already secured.
Wike also said political courage involves taking risks early and standing firm even when conditions are tough. He maintained that backing the president only after power has been secured does not carry the same weight as standing by him during the struggle.
Speaking further, Wike stated that the southern region should complete its expected eight-year tenure in power and that support for President Tinubu should continue regardless of party differences. He added that political decisions about the future would only come after the South completes its turn in 2031.
The minister’s remarks were made during his Christmas outreach visits to communities in Rivers State, where he used the opportunity to remind supporters of past sacrifices and the need for consistency in political commitments.
