Wike spoke during a thank-you visit to Eleme, where he told supporters that the political direction agreed upon for Rivers State ahead of 2027 remains final. He said the group involved had already made up its mind and would not retreat, regardless of pressure or inducement.
The minister explained that the plan includes supporting President Tinubu’s re-election and ensuring that Rivers State is led by people who truly serve the interests of the citizens. He added that money or intimidation would not alter their resolve, noting that similar political efforts had been carried out successfully in the past and could be repeated.
Wike accused some current leaders in the state of allowing greed and the influence of power to misguide them, saying such attitudes often end in failure. He warned that forgetting loyalty and gratitude usually leads to political downfall.
He said his visit to Eleme was to appreciate the people for standing by President Tinubu despite political tension. Wike also thanked them for their continued support, stating that he did not take their loyalty lightly. He recalled that Tinubu appointed him as FCT minister despite coming from the South-South, describing the move as unprecedented. He added that the level of development currently being experienced in the area was not seen before the present administration.
Earlier, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing Eleme, Aforji Igwe, praised Wike’s character and leadership, describing him as fair and upright. He assured the minister of the continued backing of the Eleme people.
The chairman of Eleme Local Government Area, Obarilormate Ollor, also thanked Wike for the projects and development carried out in the area during his time as governor. He said the people were ready to follow Wike’s political direction and were already aware of his stand on Tinubu’s re-election, adding that they were waiting for further guidance ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
