The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reacted to claims by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who accused him of fueling political crises in Bauchi. Wike said the allegations were baseless and were made to divert attention from the Bauchi governor’s internal political challenges.
Bala Mohammed had earlier spoken on a television programme where he alleged that Wike once threatened to cause unrest in Bauchi and was now using federal agencies and political influence to destabilise his government. He also criticised Wike’s handling of funds in the FCT and blamed him for ongoing disagreements within the Peoples Democratic Party.
In response, Wike said he had no role in the issues facing Bauchi State. He explained that the problems confronting the Bauchi governor were a result of his own political decisions and actions within the party. Wike stated that he had previously warned some party leaders against interfering in states where they lacked control, adding that such actions often lead to internal breakdown.
Wike also dismissed claims that he was behind investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission involving associates of the Bauchi governor. He said law enforcement agencies act on their own and should not be dragged into political disputes. According to him, any state that has nothing to hide should have no fear of investigations.
The FCT minister added that his disagreements with Bala Mohammed were limited to party leadership matters and had nothing to do with personal finances or governance choices. He urged the Bauchi governor to focus on resolving his state’s challenges instead of blaming others.
Wike further recalled Bala Mohammed’s time as FCT minister between 2010 and 2015, saying the Bauchi governor should account for his own record before questioning current projects in Abuja. He noted that many projects underway in the FCT were efforts to complete abandoned works from previous administrations.
He concluded by saying that he would continue to focus on his duties while Nigerians judge his performance, insisting that he would not be distracted by repeated accusations linking him to political problems across the country.
