The Ogun State Police Command has taken Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver of Nigerian-British boxer Anthony Joshua, before a Magistrate Court in Sagamu over a fatal road accident. The driver was arraigned on Friday following investigations into the crash that occurred earlier in the week.
Police authorities had earlier confirmed that Kayode was taken into custody after the incident. In an update released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the police said the driver was formally charged on January 2, 2026.
According to the police, the case has been adjourned, with the court fixing January 20, 2026, as the next date for hearing. The adjournment was granted to allow the legal process continue in line with court procedure.
The accident, which happened on Monday, involved a Lexus SUV linked to Anthony Joshua and resulted in the death of two of the boxer’s close associates, identified as Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. The incident drew public attention, prompting swift action from law enforcement officials.
The police assured the public that the case would be handled according to the law, adding that further updates would be provided as proceedings continue in court.
