Court Confirms Abiya as Acting NNPP Chairman in Kano

A Kano State High Court has affirmed Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya as the Acting State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party in Kano State. The court also upheld the suspension of the former state chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, and ordered him to stay away from the party’s affairs pending the conclusion of the case.
The judge fixed January 19 for the hearing of the substantive suit filed by the NNPP Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee against Dungurawa. The legal action followed disagreement over Dungurawa’s claim to the chairmanship despite his suspension by the party’s state executive.
In the ruling, the court directed all parties involved to maintain the current situation and restrained Dungurawa from presenting himself as the state chairman or taking steps that could disrupt party activities in Kano State until the matter is fully determined.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Executive Committee of the NNPP, during an emergency meeting held at the party secretariat in Kano, also endorsed Abiya’s appointment as Acting State Chairman. The committee said the decision followed the removal of Dungurawa from office.
Dungurawa is known to be associated with the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The court’s order remains in force until the case is heard and decided.
