Dr Nname Ewor on Friday announced the end of the factional leadership of the PDP in Rivers State as he formally merged his group with the Aaron Chukwemeka-led caretaker committee backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The announcement was made during Wike’s thank-you visit to Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.
Ewor, who was previously aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, said the decision followed his loss of confidence in the governor’s leadership. He stated that the PDP in Rivers State was no longer divided, adding that the party now operated under a single leadership structure loyal to Wike.
He explained that his break from the Fubara camp was due to the governor’s handling of the political crisis in the state. According to him, President Bola Tinubu had intervened twice to settle the dispute, but the agreements reached were not respected. He argued that such actions made it difficult to rely on the governor’s word.
Ewor also dismissed claims by Fubara that Wike was interfering with his administration, insisting that the former governor had not taken any step to weaken the authority of the current leadership in the state.
During the event, the Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Chukwu Ogbogu, praised Wike for visiting the area and thanked him for development projects carried out during his time as governor. He noted that many indigenes of the local government benefited from appointments at both state and federal levels under Wike’s leadership and assured him of the area’s continued support.
A member of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing ONELGA II Constituency, Nkemjika Ezekwe, also spoke in support of Wike, describing him as a strong supporter of women empowerment and crediting him with giving women in the state greater opportunities.
Felix Obuah, Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council and an indigene of the area, said Wike played a major role in his political journey and added that the people of ONELGA would remain grateful for his contributions to the state.
In his response, Wike thanked the people for their support and unity, saying such cooperation would strengthen their political influence. He stated that Rivers people were united in their support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stressing that their focus went beyond party lines in backing the president’s agenda.
