The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected claims that it has published a schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections. The Commission stated that the reports circulating online are false and do not reflect its official position.
INEC explained that it has not released any timetable for the 2027 polls. The Commission operates under the Electoral Act, 2022, which requires it to issue a Notice of Election no later than 360 days before a general election. Any information shared outside this legal process cannot be considered official.
The electoral body assured the public that the official timetable will be shared when the process is in line with the law and will be communicated through verified INEC channels. Citizens and media outlets have been urged to disregard the unverified reports and rely solely on information from INEC’s authorized platforms to avoid misinformation.
INEC’s clarification comes as social media posts circulated widely, claiming that the Commission had already published detailed dates and activities for the next general elections, causing confusion among the electorate.
