Umo Eno, governor of Akwa Ibom State, has signed the 2026 appropriation bill into law, setting the state’s budget at N1,584,271,856,630. The budget includes N416.5 billion for recurrent expenses and N1.167 trillion for capital projects.
The signing took place on Monday at the Government House during a State Executive Council meeting. Governor Eno called on council members to be fully committed to delivering government projects this year, stressing that the focus should be on action and results. He said the collaboration between the House of Assembly and the Executive Arm contributed to the state’s achievements in the previous year.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Udeme Otong, noted that the governor had successfully implemented over 80 percent of the 2025 budget. He confirmed that the House of Assembly will continue cooperating with the Executive to ensure smooth governance and ongoing development across the state.
The 2026 budget was initially presented in November 2025 at N1.39 trillion but was later revised to N1.584 trillion after adjustments from various ministries and agencies. Recurrent expenditure rose from N354 billion to N416.5 billion, while capital expenditure increased from N1.035 trillion to N1.167 trillion. Officials said the revised budget is expected to support economic growth and development in the state.
During the event, Governor Eno also awarded the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, as Commissioner of the Year for his role in the successful Christmas Unplugged 3:0 event. A cash prize of N20 million was given to the commissioner, and N100 million was granted to the planning committee. The commissioner was also granted a one-week leave in recognition of his efforts.
The governor’s 2026 budget, titled “The People’s Budget of Expansion and Growth,” will guide the state’s operations and development plans for the year.
