The Chairman of the South South Development Commission, Chibudom Nwuche, called on supporters of President Bola Tinubu to prove their loyalty by delivering their states for his re-election in 2027.
Nwuche made the call during a thank-you visit to the area by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. He said politics remains a local matter and urged politicians from outside Rivers State to stay away from its internal political affairs, noting that the state has its own political structure that outsiders may not fully understand.
The former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives said Rivers leaders see themselves as one political family and should act together when a leader makes a decision. He added that unity and collective effort are the right ways to show appreciation, not internal division.
He praised Wike for successfully mobilising Rivers voters to support Tinubu for president and Siminalayi Fubara for governor in the 2023 general elections. Nwuche, however, said the outcome of the governorship choice had fallen short of expectations, explaining that many stakeholders supported Fubara mainly out of loyalty to Wike and concern for the state’s future.
Nwuche also commended Wike for the level of development projects carried out during his time as governor, stating that more than 22 projects were executed in the area alone. He added that no other governor since 1999 had made a similar impact in Rivers State, assuring Wike of continued loyalty wherever his political direction leads.
In his remarks, Wike said the visit was meant to thank the people for backing Tinubu in the 2023 election and to begin early mobilisation for the 2027 polls. He told residents to remain confident in Tinubu’s leadership and assured them that past leadership errors would be addressed in the next election cycle.
