Boko Haram terrorists are demanding a ransom of $300,000 for the release of two men abducted in Borno State, including a former local government vice chairman. The demand became known after a video surfaced online showing the victims alive and appealing for urgent intervention.
One of the abducted men was identified as Hassan Biu Miringa, who once served as Vice Chairman of Biu Local Government Area. The second victim has not yet been identified. Reports indicate that both men were seized while travelling from Miringa to Maiduguri on December 17, 2025.
In the video, the victims confirmed that they were still in captivity and called on government officials and well-known individuals to help secure their freedom. The captors reportedly asked for $150,000 for each person, bringing the total amount to $300,000, which is estimated at about ₦428 million.
The men also appealed directly to senior figures in Borno State, including the deputy governor and some lawmakers, asking them to step in and assist in negotiations so they could return safely to their families.
Borno State has continued to face attacks and kidnappings linked to Boko Haram and its ISWAP faction. Despite ongoing military efforts, armed groups in the region still carry out abductions, often demanding large sums of money before releasing their victims.
