Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday swore in Musibau Babatunde as the new Secretary to the State Government, marking another step in the administration’s effort to maintain steady governance and policy coordination. The event took place in Ibadan, the state capital, shortly after Babatunde took his oath of office and signed the official register.
Makinde said the appointment was based on experience and long-standing involvement in the workings of the government. He explained that Babatunde, a Professor of Economics at the University of Ibadan, has worked closely with him over the years and understands the structure and direction of the administration. According to the governor, the decision was not influenced by religion or regional considerations.
The governor stated that his administration remains focused on completing its tenure strongly by delivering on its promises to the people. He added that leadership needs change at different stages, noting that the recent removal of the former SSG, Olanike Adeyemo, was a routine decision and not due to any wrongdoing on her part.
Makinde also recalled Babatunde’s early support for his political vision before becoming governor in 2019. He praised him for leading the team that developed the state’s Roadmap for Accelerated Development between 2019 and 2023, despite not seeking political gain at the time.
Addressing government officials, the governor urged unity, cooperation, and discipline within the team, warning against internal disputes and distractions. He said the administration would continue to prepare a strong structure that would allow Oyo State to progress even after his time in office.
After the ceremony, Babatunde assured residents of improved coordination across ministries and agencies. He said his priority would be effective service delivery and better implementation of government policies to ensure positive outcomes for citizens.
The ceremony was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, lawmakers, and political leaders from across the state, reflecting broad support for the new appointment.
