Alleged Wike Assassination Plot: Ex-Rivers SSG Danagogo fails to honour Police Invite

Former Rivers State Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, is involved in a police investigation over claims of a plan to kill the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The matter is being handled in Abuja by the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force, following a leaked phone call linked to the allegation. The police asked Danagogo to appear on Thursday, January 15, 2026, to answer questions and respond to the claims. The case became public after reports surfaced that the discussion took place with a Port Harcourt-based pastor, Tambari Joseph Gbeneol, during which assassins were allegedly to be brought in from Israel.
Danagogo did not honour the police invitation on the scheduled date. Through his legal representatives, he informed the police that he was not in town and therefore unable to attend the meeting as planned. His lawyers requested that the interview be moved to a later date to allow him return and make himself available.
The response from Danagogo was sent by his law firm to the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Intelligence Response Team in the Guzape area of the Federal Capital Territory. The letter stated that the invitation was served late and that Danagogo had already travelled out of town before becoming aware of it. The legal team asked that the meeting be rescheduled for Monday, January 26, 2026.
The police invitation followed claims that Danagogo was linked to a conversation suggesting plans to harm the FCT minister. Investigators invited him to provide his account and address the allegation directly. As the matter continues, security agencies are expected to decide on the next steps after the requested new date.
