Leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos East Senatorial District on Thursday warned that ongoing internal disagreements within the party could weaken its strength ahead of the 2027 general elections. The concerns were raised during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Lagos, where party figures urged members to close ranks and resolve lingering disputes.
The senator representing Lagos East, Tokunbo Abiru, acknowledged that divisions still exist within the district and appealed to party leaders to begin reconciliation efforts. He said unresolved grievances among members must be addressed early to avoid deeper cracks as election preparations progress. According to him, unity within the party remains necessary as the APC works towards securing continued leadership at the national level.
Abiru also noted that recent policy decisions taken by the current administration were beginning to steady the economy, adding that these developments strengthen the case for continuity. He maintained that internal harmony would help the party present a strong front during future elections.
The Lagos State APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, also expressed concern over declining discipline among party leaders and members. He warned that lack of discipline could slow progress and weaken collective efforts. Ojelabi called on party members to manage disagreements responsibly and make sacrifices for the growth of the party. He further urged leaders at the council level to encourage residents to take part in the ongoing APC e-registration exercise to boost grassroots participation.
Former senator for Lagos East, Olorunnibe Mamora, cautioned party members against complacency. He reminded the gathering that long-standing political dominance is never guaranteed and advised both leaders and members to remain alert, committed, and supportive of one another to sustain the party’s influence.
Speaking on behalf of council chairmen in the district, the chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Abdullahi Sesan-Olowa, said internal conflicts have slowed political progress in Lagos East. He called for fresh strategies, cooperation, and better understanding among party leaders to reposition the district politically.
The meeting was attended by members of the Governance Advisory Council, former Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Adeyemi Ikuforiji, members of the House of Representatives, state lawmakers from Lagos East, council chairmen from the district’s local governments, and members of the Lagos State Executive Council from the area.
