The Action Peoples Party in Imo State has raised concern over repeated attacks on its billboards and party installations across parts of the state. The party said the damage has been ongoing and is affecting its visibility as political activities build up toward the 2027 general elections.
The interim state leadership of the party accused supporters of the ruling party of being behind the destruction, especially in Ideato North and Ideato South federal constituencies. According to the party, several billboards belonging to its leaders, including Ikenga Ugochinyere, have been targeted on different occasions.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the state Publicity Secretary, Cajetan Duke, the party said the acts were not random but part of a wider effort to intimidate opposition members and limit public political engagement. The statement noted that such actions could create fear among supporters and discourage citizens from taking part in the democratic process.
The party warned that it would not accept actions that could disrupt peaceful political activities in the state. It also urged all political groups to focus on ideas, policies, and plans for development rather than resorting to destruction and harassment.
The Action Peoples Party called on security agencies, including the police and the Department of State Services, to investigate the incidents and ensure those responsible are brought to justice. It also asked for better protection of political materials and party officials to prevent further attacks.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful politics and urged residents, civil groups, community leaders, and the media to speak out against political violence. It said fair competition and respect for democratic values are necessary to maintain peace and stability in Imo State as the next election season approaches.
