The New Nigeria Peoples Party has denied any involvement in a planned protest against the Independent National Electoral Commission scheduled to hold on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in Abuja and other parts of the country.
The party made this known in a statement issued on Monday from its national secretariat in Abuja after reports emerged that it was planning a protest march at INEC offices. According to the NNPP, the information linking it to the protest is false.
The party said the individuals behind the planned demonstration are not members of the NNPP and described them as impostors. It explained that those persons were expelled from the party following internal disciplinary actions.
The NNPP referred to a judgment of the Federal High Court delivered on April 18, 2024, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1354/2024, which upheld the decision of the party’s leadership to expel the affected individuals. The party noted that the judgment has not been appealed.
According to the NNPP, instead of challenging the court ruling through legal means, the expelled individuals have continued to seek court orders elsewhere without valid legal backing.
The party restated that it has no plans to protest against INEC and urged its members across the country to remain calm and law-abiding. It added that it remains committed to pursuing its goals through legal and democratic processes and warned members not to be drawn into actions that could create confusion or distraction.
