The Independent National Electoral Commission has moved voter enrollment devices to communities across Osun State as part of the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise ahead of the 2026 governorship election. The exercise is aimed at reaching eligible voters, especially those living in hard-to-reach areas.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State, Mutiu Agboke, made this known on Monday in Osogbo during an extended meeting with stakeholders on the second phase of the registration process. He explained that the current phase began on January 5 and will run until April 17.
According to the commission, the new phase allows the voter enrollment devices to move from one community to another within each local government for 50 days. This approach was approved to ensure that people in scattered and rural settlements can register without stress.
The commission stated that bringing the devices closer to residents would reduce travel costs for registrants and help ease pressure at registration centres. It also noted that the method would improve service delivery and make the process faster for the public.
INEC added that the involvement of stakeholders at the local government level would help build trust and shared responsibility for the success of the exercise. The commission said the arrangement would also improve confidence in the voter registration process.
The electoral body reminded residents that voter registration is free and warned against any form of extortion or misconduct. Members of the public were encouraged to report any wrongdoing through the proper channels.
INEC also called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to maintain peace throughout the registration period, stressing that voter registration is a civic duty meant for all eligible Nigerians.
