Resident doctors under the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory, have expressed appreciation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the payment of 13 months outstanding hazard allowance and a one-month wage award to doctors in the FCT.
The commendation was contained in a letter addressed to the minister and signed by the association’s president, Dr. George Ebong, and its general secretary, Dr. Yusuf Israel Lissa. The doctors noted that the payment addressed long-standing concerns over welfare and showed the minister’s commitment to the wellbeing of healthcare workers in the territory.
According to the association, the settlement of the hazard allowance arrears and the wage award brought relief to doctors who have continued to render services under demanding conditions. They stated that the action reflected fairness and proper recognition of the sacrifices made by doctors and other health workers in the FCT health system.
The resident doctors also reaffirmed their willingness to work with the FCT administration to improve healthcare delivery and strengthen the health sector for the benefit of residents of the territory.
In the same letter, the association acknowledged the roles played by other key officials who supported the process, including the Minister of State for the FCT, senior civil service officials, and heads of health-related agencies and departments within the FCT administration.
The doctors described the cooperation among these officials as important to the successful payment process and expressed hope that such collaboration would continue to improve working conditions and healthcare services in the Federal Capital Territory.
