A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday inaugurated caretaker committees across the 20 local government areas of Lagos State. The move took place in Ikeja and reflects the deepening leadership crisis within the opposition party at the national level.
The group behind the action operates under a National Working Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary. This faction recently announced the dissolution of the party’s state executives in some states, including Lagos, as part of its efforts to reorganize party structures.
At the inauguration ceremony, Adedeji Doherty, the Deputy National Secretary of the faction, represented the National Chairman. He told the newly appointed caretaker committee members that their task was to rebuild the party from the local level upward, covering wards, zones, and local councils across the state.
Doherty, a former Lagos PDP chairman and governorship candidate, urged the committee members to approach their assignment with seriousness and commitment. He said the work ahead differed from past election efforts and required fresh energy and coordination to strengthen the party’s presence across Lagos.
The development adds another layer to the internal crisis facing the PDP, as rival factions continue to take steps that point to parallel leadership structures within the party.
