The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has said he has no plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite recent political rumors. He made the statement during a visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he met with journalists to discuss his political plans.
Makinde explained that he is comfortable remaining in the PDP and is prepared to work with all parties in the country when national issues require cooperation. His visit to Abuja came shortly after separate meetings by President Bola Tinubu with Makinde and Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, who recently left the PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The meetings take place amid early political preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections. Makinde remains one of the few PDP governors yet to switch to the APC and is believed to be positioning himself for a possible presidential run within his party.
Mutfwang, who joined the APC recently, met with Tinubu for the first time since his defection, highlighting ongoing political shifts among state leaders. Makinde’s decision to stay in the PDP shows his commitment to his party and signals that he intends to continue his political career within the opposition as the country moves closer to the next elections.
