President Bola Tinubu on Thursday met separately with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meetings took place in the afternoon, with Mutfwang arriving at about 3:00 pm, while Makinde arrived shortly after, around 3:30 pm.
The discussions come at a time when political activities are increasing across the country, as politicians and parties begin consultations in preparation for the 2027 general elections. President Tinubu has in recent months been holding talks with governors from different political parties as part of wider engagements on national and political matters.
Governor Makinde, who governs Oyo State, is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party and remains one of the few PDP governors who have not left the opposition party despite recent defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress. He is also believed to be considering a future bid for the presidency under the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.
Governor Mutfwang of Plateau State recently left the PDP for the APC, joining other opposition figures who have switched allegiance to the ruling party. Thursday’s meeting marked his first known visit to President Tinubu since his defection.
Although details of the discussions were not made public, the meetings are seen as part of ongoing political consultations involving key leaders across party lines as the next general elections draw closer.
