A support group within the ruling All Progressives Congress called on President Bola Tinubu to reshuffle his cabinet ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group, known as the APC League of Democrats, said the move was needed to improve government performance and protect the party’s future electoral chances.
The call was made on February 3, 2026, through a statement signed by the group’s National Coordinator, Babajide Oyewole, and its Secretary, Rowland Okonkwo. The statement was made available to journalists in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the group, several ministers were no longer adding value to the administration and were allegedly working against the objectives of the government. It said the delay in reshuffling the cabinet had affected service delivery and public confidence, warning that failure to act quickly could weaken the APC ahead of the next general elections.
The group noted that while some ministers should be removed, others who were seen as active and effective could be retained or reassigned. It mentioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, as officials whose performance could justify their retention.
The APC League of Democrats also accused the ministers in charge of finance-related portfolios of failing to carry out presidential directives. It claimed this failure had prolonged a dispute between the Federal Government and indigenous contractors, who were reportedly owed about N4 trillion. The group said the unresolved payments had led to repeated protests by contractors, civil society groups, and even lawyers at the Ministry of Finance.
The group explained that these developments had affected the image of the government and created avoidable tension. It urged President Tinubu to act swiftly by removing ministers considered unproductive in order to restore efficiency, improve public trust, and strengthen the APC’s position ahead of the 2027 elections.
