The Peoples Democratic Party faction loyal to Tanimu Turaki has raised concern over plans by some expelled members to take control of the party’s National Secretariat and other assets, saying such actions would be unlawful and challenged in court.
The faction said it received information that some former members were planning to force their way into the secretariat, either directly or with the help of security personnel. It described any such move as illegal since the matter is already before the courts.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the party explained that the dispute over the secretariat is currently being handled by the Federal High Court in Abuja and the Court of Appeal. It added that letters had been sent to the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police in the FCT to notify them of the ongoing legal process.
The faction warned that entering or occupying the party’s property while the case is unresolved would amount to taking the law into one’s hands. It said parties who have taken a matter to court are expected to wait for a final decision instead of acting on their own.
The party also noted that the lawsuit was filed by the expelled members themselves, making it improper for them to attempt any takeover before judgment is delivered. It cautioned security agencies against granting access to any individual, stating that such action could amount to disobedience to the court.
The faction said it would use all lawful means to protect its properties and warned that anyone involved in any unlawful entry, including those offering support, would be held responsible for any damage or injury that may occur.
