The Kwankwaso Support Group 2027 called on Nigerians to back a proposed joint presidential ticket of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for the 2027 general election.
The proposal was announced by the group’s leader, Abba Gwale, who said the idea was driven by growing public frustration with insecurity, hunger and economic hardship across the country. He explained that supporters believe combining Obi’s strong followership in the South with Kwankwaso’s wide support base in the North could produce a broad national coalition capable of winning the next presidential poll.
According to Gwale, the group is pushing the alliance across party lines, arguing that the focus should be on leadership that responds to the daily struggles of ordinary Nigerians rather than party loyalty. He said many citizens are eager for a new political direction and see the proposed ticket as a possible response to the current situation.
He also noted that the growing dissatisfaction with the ruling party has created space for alternative political forces, adding that the Obi–Kwankwaso pairing is drawing attention from different regions of the country. Gwale said the supporters believe the alliance could challenge the dominance of the All Progressives Congress in 2027.
Addressing reports that Kwankwaso had made heavy demands while negotiating with the ruling party, Gwale dismissed such claims, saying any discussion around political positions should be seen as efforts to protect the interests of supporters across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
He added that Kwankwaso’s supporters are largely made up of ordinary Nigerians struggling to survive, and that their expectations are tied to better governance and improved living conditions.
As the 2027 election draws closer, the support group said it would continue to mobilise Nigerians around the idea of a united opposition ticket, insisting that the Obi–Kwankwaso partnership could change the country’s political direction if given the chance at the polls.
